This is my opinion as an individual supporter of the Fair Tax and is not a policy of any organization or group. It is based on personal observations from a number of years. It is not meant to demean any group or person for their actions.
AFFT has, for a number of years, tried to control and maintain the growth and impact of the Fair Tax. Everything was coordinated through the headquarters in Houston. There has been several different administrative groups "controlling" the activities. There has been a lot of confusion due mainly because of lack of communication from the top to the grassroots. I have heard of and in some cases observed individuals or groups of individuals who have become frustrated with (or lack of) support from AFFT. They are very active supporters of the Fair Tax, but have problems with AFFT control or communications. Recently, there have been some large cutbacks at AFFT. While AFFT had started to build and organize a grassroots efforts last year, their major focus was on the Presidential Campaign efforts in Iowa and other states with some large expenditures. The grassroots efforts have been very slow to build. There are a number of groups that have come together in the last year that were apart from AFFT. (All the groups have a common thread ---- Getting the Fair Tax message to the public and getting HR-25 out of Committee, on to the floor of the House. then passed!) One prime example of this is the National Fair Tax Rally in Nashville on April 12th. The group that has organized this event has done a wonderful job in the planning and making it a reality. (Well Done guys!) AFFT has recognized this and is even given some approval of it. The Fair Tax Bus will be there. AFFT is not helping with the funding for the event, but has shown the event on their website showing their endorsement for the event. Another indication of AFFT support of the grassroots efforts of individual that support the Fair Tax is where they have now placed the ICON for Meetup.com on their webpage. It links to FairTaxMeetup.com! This shows their approval of this effort. It may be very subdle, but we will take whatever we get. At this point, we need to be open and receptive to any group that carries the comming thread mentioned above. We need to encourage them to join the National Fair Tax Meetup group so everyone is aware of their approach and can pass it along to everyone else. We need to maintain a positive and upbeat attitude. |
